Acrylic Painting on Old Oar by Tracey Yager
During a painting holiday on Waiheke Island, New Zealand I was lucky enough to find two lovely old oars at the tip recycled shop. I mulled over what to paint on them for a long time, unable to decide. It was while paddling outrigger with the local Waka Ama Club that I came upon the solution. We hit a big patch of floating seaweed out paddling one day and I realised as my paddle brushed the seaweed that those two oars would have done the same thing in their time, the answer was clear – I should paint seaweed on them.
I collected various types of seaweed from the beaches and chose this variety ‘Neptune’s Necklace’ for this oar.
